The Milky Way Galaxy, commonly referred to as just the Milky Way, or sometimes simply as the Galaxy, is the home galaxy of the Earth and billions of other systems which are in turn hoe to thousands of different states. It is agreed that the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy, although observations suggest that it is a barred spiral galaxy. It contains 300±100 billion stars and an additional 50 billion planets, 500 million of which could be located in the habitable zone of their parent star. The Milky Way is part of the Local Group of galaxies and is one of around 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Astrography and Cartography[]

The Stellar Cartographic Survey is the group most noted for their attempts to map and chart the Milky Way. Though relying heavily on the voluntary contributions of independent states, they have nonetheless amassed a great deal of data.

The current version of the Survey is the Twenty-Ninth Edition.
