The Liberty-class Star Dreadnought, often called the Liberty-class Battleship, was a 30 kilometer star dreadnought and battleship apart of the Dreadnought Project by the Stonewall Federation to develop multi-kilometer battleship style capital ships to keep up militarily with outside nations. There were problems with early prototypes due to the sheer size of the superstructure and engine mounts. These were corrected before full production began.
Characteristics[]
The Liberty-class was approximately 30 kilometers long and was roughly twenty times longer than the Federation-class Star Destroyer. The dreadnought was built with numerous automated systems to cut the crew size down to 15,000, which were typically used to man the large amount of firepower on this ship.
Due to technology sharing between Barlat Concordiat members, the Liberty-class was the first Stonewall Federation ship to be equipped with neutron cannons and probes. Their shields were stronger than any other Stonewall Defense Corporation vessel thanks to this sharing of technology.
Development[]
With the Galactic Empire in recession and less patrols in the Stonewall Federation, Chancellor Theodore Jackson and Supreme Commander William Bedford Forrest determined it was necessary to develop larger capital ships. Despite Imperial regulations and laws, Jackson and Forrest pursued developing the mammoth vessels in clear violation of those regulations.
The Liberty-class was developed beside the Confederate-class Star Dreadnought and was based off of the Sovereign-class Super Star Destroyer.
